Dr. Sven Lanssens (Belgium)
Dr. Sven Lanssens graduated as a dermatologist in 2014 from the University of Ghent and is a dermatologist at Dermatologie Maldegem where he is responsible for clinical research. Immuno- dermatology, and the ensuing treatments, remains an important area of interest for him. A second important pillar of Dr. Lanssens’ interest and research area is dermoscopy, both within skin cancer and beyond.
Dr. Katrien Vossaert (Belgium)
Katrien Vossaert did her residency at the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital of Gent. In 1990, she became a Melanoma Fellow at NYU Medical Center. She was involved in clinical research on skin cancer, mostly atypical nevi and melanoma. Dermoscopy became her main field of interest. After her return to Belgium in 1992, she started a private practice in general dermatology. She is now chief of a dermatology clinic ‘Dermatologie Maldegem’, where she works together with 3 associates, and 4 residents. She is still involved in scientific work and teaching as president of the Belgian Dermoscopy Group. She is also board member of the Belgian Society of Dermatology.
Prof. Jan Gutermuth (Belgium)
Professor-Doctor Jan Gutermuth is Chair and Principle Investigator of the Department of Dermatology at Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel (UZ Brussel) at the Skin Immunology & Immune Tolerance Research Group (SKIN) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His special interest is the pathophysiology and treatment of inflammatory skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis. Prior to his appointment in Brussels he worked at the US National Institute for Health/ National Cancer Institute and the Technische Universität München.
Dr. Valerie Reynaert (Belgium)
Dr. Valerie Reynaert is a dermatologist at UZ Brussel, specialized in inflammatory skin diseases and systemic conditions. She completed her medical training at UZ Brussel, graduating in 2016. Her interest in dermatology and internal medicine led to a particular focus on inflammatory skin diseases and systemic conditions. At the end of her dermatology training, she completed a course in capillaroscopy and participated in the systemic sclerosis consultations at UZ Gent. After graduating, she joined the dermatology staff at UZ Brussel, where she primarily supervises general dermatology, inflammatory skin disease, and systemic condition consultations. In addition, she is actively involved in scientific research in the field of inflammatory skin diseases.
Prof. Olivier Aerts (Belgium)
Professor Dr. Olivier Aerts is the Head of the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Antwerp (UZA) in Belgium. He leads the Contact Allergy Unit at UZA, where he specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic contact dermatitis. In 2017, he obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences with a focus on contact allergy and immunodermatology. His research centers on T-cell mediated hypersensitivity reactions, particularly those caused by cosmetics, medications, and medical devices. He is actively involved in several expert groups, including the EECDRG (as Secretary), the ESCD (as Chairman of the European Baseline Series), ACDS, and GERDA. In 2020, he received international recognition for identifying isobornyl acrylate as a cause of allergic reactions in diabetes devices. He is a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Contact Dermatitis. Professor Aerts collaborates extensively with national and international partners in the fields of contact allergy and immunodermatology. He is a frequent speaker at major international conferences on dermatology and allergy.
Dr. Niels Horst (Belgium)
Dr. Niels Horst is a dermatologist at the University Hospital Antwerp (UZA) and senior staff member in the dermatology department. He graduated with high distinction in Medicine from the University of Antwerp in 2013. After one year of internal medicine training, he specialized in dermatology under Prof. Julien Lambert at UZA, completing his training in 2018. During his specialization, he focused on general dermatology, dermatosurgery, and clinical trials for new psoriasis treatments. He completed additional training in tropical dermatology at the University Hospital of Moshi, Tanzania. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Tropical Medicine and International Healthcare from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. He also earned a “Diplôme Interuniversitaire” in dermatosurgery from the University of Versailles (UVSQ), France and completed a fellowship in Mohs surgery at UZA. He is a founding member of the Belgian Mohs Group and co-chair of the EADV tropical dermatology task force. His clinical interests include Mohs surgery, tropical dermatology, and skin cancer treatment. He is known for public education on skin health, debunking common skincare myths in the media. In addition to his hospital work, he practices at Dermadok skin clinic in Antwerp.
Dr. Koen Roegies (Belgium)
Dr. Koen Roegies is a board-certified dermatologist and venereologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. He graduated with high distinction in Medicine from Ghent University in 2000. He completed his dermatology training at Ghent University Hospital and Sint-Jan Hospital in Bruges. His expertise includes inflammatory and infectious dermatoses, allergies, and dermato-oncology. He has received advanced training in laser treatments and participated in clinical trials for new dermatological therapies. Dr. Roegies practiced in both Belgium and the Netherlands, gaining broad international experience. Since 2006, he has been a pioneer in teledermatology, coordinating pilot projects in Belgium. He is an active member of the Belgian and Dutch Societies of Dermatology and Venereology. He currently serves as president of the Belgian Professional Union of Dermatology and Venereology (UPBDV). Dr. Roegies is a passionate speaker known for his clear communication and deep clinical insight.
Prof. Petra De Haes (Belgium)
Prof. De Haes is the clinical head of the Dermatology Department at the University Hospital Leuven, where she has worked since 2005. Professor De Haes is also Senior Academic Staff member at the Biomedical Science Group, Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation at the Katholieke University Leuven. Her main focus, both in clinic and in research, is on the cutaneous manifestations of systemic diseases. Prof De Haes has a close interaction with the departments of internal medicine and rheumatology with combined multidisciplinary consultations. Besides systemic diseases, Prof. De Haes is also responsible for the health care programme mucosal pathology and autoimmune bullous diseases.
Prof. Reinhart Speeckaert (Belgium)
Reinhart Speeckaert is a Professor of Dermatology in the Department of Dermatology at Ghent University Hospital in Ghent, Belgium. He specializes in in vitiligo, skin conditions related to systemic diseases, alopecia areata, wound care and a broad range of immune-mediated skin diseases. His first PhD in Dermatology (in 2012) focused on the immunosurveillance of melanocytes in conditions ranging from melanoma to vitiligo and halo nevi. He gained a second PhD (in 2014) in Clinical Chemistry, which dealt with the clinical implications of the genetic polymorphism in the haptoglobin gene. The combination of clinical practice and research enables Professor Speeckaert to study the skin’s fascinating immune responses. Furthermore, the FWO’s (Research Foundation – Flanders) research mandate has allowed him to conduct various types of studies, including translational research and clinical trials. This has resulted in over 130 published A1 journal articles, chapters in several textbooks, and opportunities to speak at international meetings. These findings have contributed to recent advances in vitiligo management. Professor Speeckaert enjoys communicating about new advances in dermatology and providing dermatologists with the most up-to-date practical guidelines for improving dermatology patient care.
Prof. Jo Lambert (Belgium)
Prof. Dr. Jo Lambert is a senior full professor in dermatology and venereology, at the Department of Dermatology at Ghent University, Belgium. She is current chair of the EADV Task Force Psoriasis, EADV Scientific Programme Committee member and Councilor at the International Psoriasis Council. She is immediate past president of the Royal Belgian Society of Dermatology and Venereology, member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium, board member of the Fondation René Touraine (FRT) Scientific Committee, and past president of the Skin Inflammation and Psoriasis International Network of the FRT. Prof. Lambert specializes in the fields of psoriasis and human skin pigmentation. Her research interests lie in the improvement of care in immune-mediated inflammatory skin disorders through an evidence-based integrated approach. She founded the PsoPlus approach, an example of a value-based integrated practice unit for psoriasis.
Prof. Julien Lambert (Belgium)
Professor Dr. Julien Lambert completed his residence in Dermatology in 1987 at the University of Antwerp followed by an additional year of training with a special focus on photodermatology at the Hôpital Saint-Louis in Paris. He received his masters in economic sciences at the University of Antwerp in 1989, where his thesis was on the economic costs of HIV in Belgium. In 1994, he obtained his PhD on provocationtests of polymorphic light eruption. He was appointed Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Antwerp University Hospital in 1997. His main interests are general dermatology (more specifically acne, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis), photodermatology, pharmaco-economics, dermato-epidemiology, tropical dermatology. He was president of the Royal Belgian Society of Dermatology and Venereology from 2002 till 2007. He was member of the Board of the EADV from 2007 till 2013. He was member of the Finance Committee of the EADV. He is President-elect of the Foundation Rene-Touraine e-dermatology portal committee.
Prof. Mariano Suppa (Belgium)
Prof. Dr. Mariano Suppa is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium, and currently serves as: Chair of the Communication Committee of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV); vice-president of the non-invasive skin imaging group of the Societé Française de Dermatologie (GICNI-SFD); member of the EUROMELANOMA Prevention Campaign Organizing Committee; and member of the “Hidradenitis Suppurativa Global Alliance” Expert Group.After his medical studies in Italy, France, and UK, he subsequently got his PhD at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium). His main clinical/research interests are non-invasive skin imaging, dermato-oncology, skin cancer prevention, hidradenitis suppurativa, epidemiology and biostatistics.
Prof. Thomas Damsin (Belgium)
Dermatologist and deputy head of clinic at Liège University Hospital under the supervision of Professor Nikkels. His role at the hospital is to care for patients with chronic inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, HS disease and cutaneous lupus. He is also a doctoral student working on the research topic of « teledermoscopy in primary care medicine ».
Prof. Thomas Rustemeyer (The Netherlands)
Prof. Dr. Thomas Rustemeyer is a Full Professor of Dermato-Allergology and Occupational Dermatology at Amsterdam University Medical Centers (Amsterdam UMC) and affiliated with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. With over three decades of clinical and academic experience, he is recognized as a leading expert in contact dermatitis, skin allergy, and immunology. His research focuses on allergen exposure, patch testing, and immunological mechanisms underlying allergic skin diseases, contributing significantly to the understanding and management of occupational and environmental skin disorders. Prof. Rustemeyer has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed publications and actively participates in international guideline development for allergic and inflammatory dermatoses. He also leads multiple clinical studies, including investigations into metal allergies, acrylate sensitization, and novel therapeutic approaches for chronic skin conditions. His work has shaped best practices in diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of contact allergies, making him a sought-after speaker at global dermatology and allergology conferences. In addition to his academic contributions, Prof. Rustemeyer is deeply involved in patient safety advocacy, raising awareness about emerging allergens such as those found in gel nail products and their long-term health implications.
Prof. Tom Hillary (Belgium)
Prof. dr. Tom Hillary MD PhD is a member of staff of the Dermatology department of UZ Leuven, Belgium. His primary area of expertise are inflammatory skin diseases, with a focus on Psoriasis. He is conducting academic research in the area of IMID-associated comorbidities and was awarded a KOOR-mandate (Klinische Onderzoeks- en Opleidingsraad) in 2020 and 2022. He is primary investigator in the academic DALIH (DAtabase Leuven Inflammatoire Huidziekten) and PICASSO (ProspectIve Cohort psoriASiS fOllow-up) research projects, both aiming for a better understanding of inflammatory skin disease and improving patient care. He is involved in multiple clinical trials for Psoriasis, Atopic Dermatitis, Prurigo Nodularis and other skin diseases. His second area of expertise are primary cutaneous lymphoma. He is primary investigator of the KAHLO project (biobanK cutAne HuidLymfOmen), with the goal to support future academic research in this group of rare diseases. He is board member of the Royal Belgian Society for Dermatology and Vernereology, and is past President of the SNNDV (Stichting Nederlandstalige Nascholing voor Dermatologie en Venereologie)(2022-2024). Furthermore, he is junior editor of the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (JEADV).
Dr. Samira Baharlou (Belgium)
Doctor Samira Baharlou obtained her Medical Degree at the Medical School Charité, Humbolt University in Berlin, Germany and specialized afterwards in dermatology, venerology and tumor therapy. Additionaly, she obtained a M.Sc. in Healthcare Management from Solvay Business School (ULB). Dr. Baharlou is head of clinic at the university hospital in Brussels and consultant at the hospital Sint-Maria Halle. She is a founding member of « Belgian Laser Group » in 2016 and secretary, also active member of the Belgian Euromelanoma Group since 2019. She conducted and headed multiple clinical trials, both sponsored and investigator-originated for the past 10 years. She is a member of the Belgian and French Society of Dermatology, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology as well as the French and European Laser Society. She is a regular speaker on national and international congresses such as the Belgian Dermatology Days, IMCAS and EADV. Her cllinical focus is on laser therapy, esthetic dermatology, dermatological surgery and dermato-oncology.
Prof. Falk G. Bechara (Germany)
Professor Falk G. Bechara is the Deputy Director of the Department of Dermatology and Head of the Department of Dermatologic Surgery at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. He is the Past-President of the German Society of Dermatologic Surgery (DGDC) and coordinating the Skin Cancer Center of the Ruhr-University Bochum with focus on reconstructive dermatologic surgery. Prof. Bechara is also leading the Clinical Study Center for inflammatory skin diseases at the Ruhr-University Bochum and was a Board Member of the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ISDS). In 2008 Prof. Bechara founded the Hidradenitis suppurativa / Acne inversa Center in Bochum, which has become one of the largest in Europe, with a focus on serious cases with demanding surgical challenges. In 2020 the Bochum Hidradenitis suppurativa center was expended to the “International Center for Hidradenitis suppurativa / Acne inversa (ICH)”, reflecting the diverse international cooperations with different HS centers and the increased number of international patients seeking the highest medical and surgical care for their disease.
Dr. Caroline Colmant (Belgium)
Caroline Colmant obtained her medical degree and master’s in dermatology and venereology at UCL, and her diploma in pediatric dermatology at the University of Montreal. She has been practicing as a pediatric dermatologist and a dermatologist specialized in genodermatoses at UZ Leuven since September 2022. Her main clinical interests include epidermolysis bullosa, hereditary ichthyoses, neurofibromatosis, mosaic skin disorders and atopic dermatitis. She is the HCP representative for UZ Leuven within the ERN-Skin. She is also pursuing a PhD on the topic of mosaic skin conditions.
Prof. Bita Dezfoulian (Belgium)
Prof. Bita Dezfoulian, MD, PhD, is a Belgian dermatologist and allergologist based at the Department of Dermatology of CHU Liège, where she serves as an Associate Professor within the Dermato-Allergology Unit. Her clinical and academic activity focuses on dermatology and allergic diseases. She is regularly involved in patient care, teaching, and clinical research. Prof. Dezfoulian completed her medical and dermatology training at the University of Liège, followed by additional subspecialty training in Allergology and Clinical Immunology at the University of Nancy (France). Her research output is substantial, with over 100 scientific publications in dermatology, allergology, pediatric dermatology, and related fields. Her work is widely cited, notably in areas such as contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and cutaneous allergy.
Dr. Jonathan Krygier (Belgium)
Dr. Krygier is a dermatologist in Brussels, consulting at the Brussels Skin Center and UMC Saint-Pierre, including its MIA center for infectious and sexually transmitted diseases. He specializes in psoriasis care—ranging from mild to severe forms—and urological dermatology, managing conditions linked to sexually transmitted infections and mucosal pathologies of the male genital organs. A graduate in medicine and dermatology from the Université libre de Bruxelles, he trained at UMC Saint-Pierre, Brugmann, and UZ Brussels. Dr. Krygier is an active member of KBVDV, SFD, and EADV.
Dr. Michael Ceulemans (Belgium)
Dr. Michael Ceulemans is a senior researcher and lecturer at KU Leuven, specializing in perinatal medication safety and pharmacoepidemiology. He earned his PhD in 2019 and initiated and coordinates BELpREG, the Belgian pregnancy registry. His work focuses on medication use and safety during pregnancy and lactation, and he teaches pharmacy and midwifery courses. Dr. Ceulemans has published widely (H-index 14, >50 PubMed articles) and received in 2023 an award from the Royal Academy of Medicine in Belgium for his research contributions.
Dr. Pierre Paul Roquet-Gravy (Belgium)
Doctor RoquetGravy obtained his Medical Degree at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) and specialized afterwards in dermatology, venerology and medicalveterinary mycology. Dr. RoquetGravy is Head of the Department of Dermatology and Plastic Surgery, Burns Centre and Skin Bank at Grand Hopital de Charleroi. His special interest is the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis but also scalp, nail and mucous membrane disorders. Dr. Roquet is also licensed in medical expertise and evaluation of personal injury.
